Today we had a thirty minute discussion before breaking off into our subgroups to do work. I led the first part of our meeting, which was a standup style check in based on our deliverables outlined on the Gantt chart. Everyone has been up to date for their deliverables.
The marketing and communications team has planned out an outline for the next six posts to get the most engagement and deliver the most relevant information to our target audience. They met independently over the weekend to organize their thoughts together. Zoe and I read through their final outline and approved it shortly after. They have also outlined a specific posting schedule so they can better organize their own time and maintain consistency and routine with engaging on our social media platforms. In class, they will work on gaining more followers by following the class list and attempting to engage with locals.
The technical implementation team is working on implementing motion detection through a software called “touch designer”. Over the weekend, they connected with students on other teams who are familiar with the software to gauge feasibility. They also tested block detection independently, but ultimately abandoned the idea as it did not track specifically human movement. Aayet started a file which she showed us, but mainly Jack and Aayet are spending class today to test it out themselves. When connected to a Sony A7, touch designer can sense whether people are present, how many people are present, and whether someone is moving their hands on the screen. This offers a few interesting applications for our project. Perhaps the hand motion element can be used as an easter egg – which was a critique we got last week. If that doesn’t work out due to feasibility when we test it today, we decided as a team that we will shift our project to be an interactive website that encourages user engagement through button interactions. This is our backup plan that we formulated last weekend during our virtual meeting.
The visual design team is dividing and conquering today. Raechel has already finished an outline for the commercial which is due in 2 weeks. She intends to do storytelling through animations of our characters, and each of them will share what they enjoy most about our visualization through voiceovers. Erin is working on the video interviews – she has already prepared a script and is taking five minutes from various team members today to record the footage for ideally all three of the interviews. Jess was absent so she will record Aayet instead.
As Project management, I worked on this journal, and as I was writing it, I was reflecting on the social media team’s work and realized there is room for improvement in terms of gaining outreach. I spoke with the other PM’s and team lead, and we agreed on a new strategy – to compile a list of local/community oriented companies in Stratford, their contact information (emails and instagram handles), and draft up messages to send in both respective platforms. The contents of the email and direct message templates are below. We also asked Jacob and Ari if they would be okay with that plan and they agreed to reach out to the organizations today and visit the routes in person tomorrow.
